A man they called 'Mique'

Since today is Father's Day, I have written a piece about a unique and interesting man without whom I of course wouldn't exist. This man was also a writer in his own mind even earning a degree in English/Journalism, and worked in that field until the late 80s when I came around.

This man is of course, my father and father to my sister and brother. Micheal Eastman commonly known as "Mike" or he spelled it "Mique" to be different.

Daddy wasn't a cowboy, but knew and liked them. He even had a beer with rodeo legend Larry Mahan one time at the time when Mahan was becoming big in the rodeo world and apparently was on his way to Pendelton but had stopped in Nyssa where my folks were living at the time and where my dad grew up, but didn't know who he was until the bartender told him who he had just been drinking with. Daddy just thought he was one of the local ranchers and my father loved to visit with everyone who'd listen to him. So he was unimpressed or so he told me!

He had a way with people, from farm workers, to ranchers, to high rollers, to regular folks, even had a friend who was a pimp (no lie the guy was a real working pimp by night). He taught us kids to try and get along with everyone, his thoughts were he didn't care who you were, what color, lifestyle, or whatever, as long as you didn't screw him over or mess with his kids or wife then he figured we could all get along.

The man was also quite a dresser too, took hours on his hair until it was just perfect. Most females don't spend as much time on themselves as he did!

I could go on and on about this man, but in closing I leave these words!

To the man who taught me the songs of The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Elvis, Ray Charles, and far to many others, who gave me a love of writing and words. To the guy who was always the first parent in the pick up lot at school, who always taught me to not be ashamed of being unique and to follow my own arrow. Who taught me to love classic cars and NASCAR races, to the man who never grew up! Daddy, i am not sure what you would have thought of some of the crazy things i have done but i know you would have supported them even if they weren't anything you would have done! I know you know what we kids are up to, even though we cannot see you, we know you are there!
Happy Fathers Day to you Daddy, we miss and love you!

Beauty Swap Part 2!

Remember a few months back when I wrote about a beauty swap started by Crystal over at Crystal Cattle?? well she decided to do it again for January/February with the help of Courtney Nolz over at Cowgirl Crush which by the way has some fabulous sweaters on their website.

This time my partner was Sara Hewitt, an agriculture loving farm wife from Minnesota who helps her husband with his parent's farm. She is also working on her Masters at Kansas State and is majoring in English. After chatting via email and Facebook about our beauty likes and dislikes, I sent her some fabulous goodies that I knew she would love!

3 days after my birthday, I received a box full of goodies from her. Here is a highlight of some of the things she sent me

1. Wet Brush, this has by far got to be my most favorite styling tool ever. My hair gets really tangled when it is wet so this was perfect. (She also sent one to Crystal during the last Swap)

2. Some nail art which I haven't used yet but will soon! Nail Bling that is

3. Urban Decay Eyeliner, I have always wanted to try Urban Decay products since I hear from other gals that they are awesome. Can't wait to put it on.

4. Scented Hand Sanitizer, couldn't have come at a better time since the flu and crude are going on around here.

5. Assorted samples of neat products

And last but not least, a whole bunch of Hersheys Carmel and Chocolate Kisses which are now long gone!

Major points to Crystal and Courtney for another successful swap, looking forward to the next one.

Here is a picture of all the goodness!

'Prince Charming In Chinks'

'Prince Charming In Chinks'

'Some girls dream that
Their Prince Charming
Rides up in a fancy sports car
Wearing a Gucci suit
And the finest dress shoes made from the finest Italian leather
Who lives in a castle in Hollywood
However
Some girls dream that
Their Prince Charming
Rides up on a gruella horse not white
Wearing worn out Levis
Tall top boots
Armatas made by his own hands
And a black felt flat hat
Who makes his living on the range
Makes his home in the sagebrush sea
Drives an old Ford pick up with a dent in the door
Yes when most girls dream
Of Prince Charming
They think a castle in the Hollywood hills
Gold and jewels
But not the girls
of the Great Basin
We're a different breed
How so? you may think
Because
Our Prince Charming's
Wear Chinks'

Beauty Swap and a New Year

First off, I'd like to wish everyone a happy New Year and hope you all had a great holiday season.

Second, I know this is not a poem or a story, rather it's a non fiction story.

Anyway back in November, Crystal over at the Crystal Cattle blog started something called a 'Beauty Swap' the idea was to pair up with someone and swap beauty products. I decided to participate partly because it sounded like something fun, and up until then end of 2012 beginning of last year I was never a make up type of girl, just powder, blush and tinted Chap Stick if that even. End of 2012 I discovered 2 ladies called "The Buckaroo Barbies" who said it was ok to be punchy AND pretty at the same time, needless to say I have changed my tune about the whole thing!

But anyway back to the topic at hand, I was paired with Jenny Dewey Roerich, one of the co producers of this swap, she is a farm wife in North Dakota, her husband is a sunflower farmer, and a fellow blogger as well (plus we share a name so it made it all the better) Anyway she sent me a box full of make up and skin care goodness, even a couple of hair care products as well. I have never gotten anything like that before in my life so this was a new experience and ending up with a new friend made it better!

These are some of the goodies I recieved in my box from Miss Jenny.

1. Victoria's Secret Very Sexy Temptation body spray, I loved the way this smelled, not overpowering which is good because my mother is asthmatic and can't handle lots of heavy fragrances

2. Cynthia Rowley eye shadow palette, I had never heard of this brand but the colors are amazing and match my skin tone and eye color which is always a plus because in the past when I have put on eye shadow I looked like a 1980s nightmare. That isn't the case with this one.

3. Cupcake bath fizzies, these smell amazing and I can't wait to try them out

4.Lancome Juicy Tube, lip gloss

5. A sample of face wash, I just used it today and not only did it smell like a combination of cranberry and grape, it made my face really soft too.

6. a bar of Goat Milk soap

7. and various samples that I can't wait to try

I would like to thank both Crystal and Jenny for coming up with this idea, it was so much fun and I can't wait til the next one! It is really fun getting to know people this way, as I said I never was a make up type person and this was also a great way to discover new products as well!!
